When to change Tyres?
It's coming very quickly into winter which means it's extra important you remain vigilant and safe on the roads. I don't know about you but driving in the winter is a much more stressful experience, but there's so many ways to prepare your car so you feel safer and in control such as knowing when to change tyres.
One of the most important things to do is make sure your tyres are road worthy and if possible winter tyres with a little more grip. It can be tricky to work out when to replace your tyres but follow these 3 super easy ways to check your tyres and if you do need to replace then check out local suppliers or order tyres online from Headley Tyres Berkshire Centre*
Compromised Tread Depth
The law in the UK requires tyres to have a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm in a continuous band around the central three quarters of the tyre - most manufacturers often mould tread bars at roughly 1.6mm but there are lots of handy youtube videos on how to check if you're not sure. It's really important the tread depth is correct otherwise your car could lose it's balance due to lack of friction so make sure you check
Unusual Bulges
If your tyres look uneven they're very likely to be in a used and depreciating state, driving on them beyond that point can be dangerous and indicates a need to replace your tyres. Inspect them carefully and you should notice any bulges or cracks
Higher Fuel Consumption
If you're driving around your usual routes but noticing that you're getting through fuel much faster then definitely check the health of your tyres. Tyres that are in a bad condition can cause your vehicle to use more fuel and ultimately cost you a lot of money - replacing them as soon as necessary should save you a lot of money
What other tips do you have?
These are some great tips. I know I need to check my tyres more regularly and this is a handy reminder! I'd also recommend keeping an eye on tyre pressure too, either with a hand held gauge or one at a fuel station.
