Top Tips to Improve Your Blog in the New Year

Top Tips to Improve Your Blog in the New Year

With the new year just around the corner, it’s a good opportunity to give your blog a revamp and seek out areas for improvement. Whether your blog is a full-time job or just a hobby that you work on in the evenings, there are always things you can do to increase your readership and gain more traction. It would be wise to stay up-to-date with the latest digital marketing news* so that you’re aware of any changes in the industry, such as new Google or social media algorithms.
Improve Your Blog

In May of next year, for example, Google are planning to launch their Page Experience Update. This means that if Google considers your blog to offer a good page experience for users then it will rank better in the Search Engine Results Page (SERP), and vice versa. With this in mind, make sure that your blog runs on HTTPs rather than HTTP, is mobile friendly and loads quickly.

You may also want to up your keyword research game in the new year to ensure you are reaching your target audience. Think about what your readers might be searching in Google and how they might word those queries, to help you come up with a killer headline and subheadings. The most successful content is that which meets a specific need, so bear that in mind when writing. Try and make it resonate with your audience.

You should also consider crafting evergreen content, which essentially means that it will stay relevant no matter what time of year, or even five years later. “5 Ideas for Valentine’s Gifts” for example, is not an example of evergreen content, because it’s only relevant in January/February.

Try and establish good relationships with other bloggers, by commenting on their articles and supporting them on social media. Link to other websites as well as your own so that Google doesn’t think you’re a spammer. Essentially, remember that good manners go a long way online, not just in real life.
