Wuka Period Pants - Eco-Friendly Periods

Wuka Period Pants

Periods, Menstruation, Aunt Flo, or the red witch. Whatever you're calling it, it's a fact of life and it's likely that you experience it regularly. In fact over your lifetime it averages around 500 periods which is a hell of a lot. When you look into the more typical methods of period products it's one use, plastic and completely unsustainable. With an estimated 2.5m tampons and 1.4m sanitary towels used every day in the UK, it's understandable that we're looking out for more eco-friendly period products and sustainable ways to do our part in living a more eco-friendly life

There are a few different methods of being more sustainable during your period, whether thats reusable sanitary pads or mooncups or tampons with recylable applicators. My favourite method and one I couldn't survive without anymore is the Wuka Period Pants

Wuka period pants

WUKA* was created in 2017 and led the way becoming the UK's first ever reusable and leak proof period wear. The brand is female led and began paving the way for a sustainable period and help put an end to period poverty

Fast forward 4 years and Wuka Period Pants are storming the market, they're campaigning fiercely to stop Period Pants being viewed as a luxury and reduce tax in line with other plastic riddled period products.

The pants themselves are brilliant. They come in a variety of styles and flows from light - heavy, high waisted to bikini you're bound to find a style that suits your fit. Each pair  has a super absorbant gusset made up of layers to help absorb and lock in the blood while keeping you secure, dry and feeling fresh.

A 'light flow' pair can hold the equivalent of 2 tampons, whereas the heavy flow can hold up to 4 tampons worth of period blood. This has given me so much security and allowed me to carry on living my life even when on my period

They're fantastic at giving you the assurances of no leaking and can see you right through the day depending on your flow. It's completely revolutionised how I have a period, with no longer having to remember to have sanitary products in my bag, or trying to discreetly open them in a public toilet. With the current pandemic situation it's meant I can head out on a walk without having to worry if there's a toilet to change my tampon as my Wuka Period Pants saw me through till I got home

They're incredibly comfy and discreet and after a couple of uses you begin to forget they're any different to your normal underwear. Most importantly it gives me reassurance knowing that I'm playing my part on being sustainable and reducing plastic waste. Wuka stands for Wake Up Kick Ass and that's exactly what these period pants allow me to do, live the life I want and for the most part be able have a period with no stress or worry.
